Alex was great. The cleaning service was great as well. The apartment has spectacular views and the pool is a short walk up the hill. The beach was a little too far and not as nice as Playa Espadilla. My mother-in-law couldn't walk to the beach so we had to take the car. Also, you definitely need a car if you stay here. Otherwise, you are isolated from everything. With that being said, I highly recommend it.
The Penthouse was much nicer than we expected. Very spacious with upscale kitchen and bathrooms. Fabulous view and even had a monkey visit our porch one morning. Several mornings the monkeys would entertain us. Quiet beach is only a 5 minute walk down the hill and larger beach is a 30 minute walk. We hope to come back!
Our stay was effortless at La Shana. The rental suits 6 very comfortably, 8 including air mattress and couch. The maid was the most complete caretaker I've ever had, and our host took care of us with rides, recommendations, and excursions. Couldn't ask for more- but we did also get in room massages, again set up by our Host.
I stayed in the Penthouse in August 2016 with my wife, two children (5 & 7), and my parents. It is very well maintained, clean, quiet, and very comfortable. The views from every room are amazing, and each room has its own balcony. There is a short walk down to the beach where we encountered white-faced monkeys along the way multiple times, and my parents saw a sloth as well. The pool at the resort is also nice, and we used it numerous times. If you're looking for a relaxing get away, this is the place to stay. I HIGHLY recommend it, and hope to get there again some day. In addition to the penthouse being great, the property manager, Alex, was equally great. He is very knowledgeable about the area, and is a GREAT resource for activities in the area. We spent about 15 minutes talking his ear off when he checked us in about what to do, with who, and how much it would cost. After that all I had to do was send a text message to Alex with what we wanted to do, what day we wanted to do it, and how many of us there would be and he set up the rest. He texted back with the information we needed, and each activity went off without a hitch. It could not have been any easier, and the prices for each activity were either the same as advertised on their websites, or in some cases, cheaper. And if you go fishing, Alex will gladly take any fish you keep that you can't eat while you're there (I hope you enjoyed the yellowfin tuna Alex). Thanks for everything Alex. We appreciate all your help leading up to, and while we were in Costa Rica. I hope we can get down there again someday. Soon.
The property was clean and well staffed. The chef was friendly and always on time. Alex, the concierge, was knowledgeable and accommodating. Definitely rent a car if you plan on staying here, as you may feel stranded without one. While the property is nice, you would need a car to get to town and access tours. Also, surprisingly, the wifi was fast and reliable! This is not to be taken lightly at Costa Rican hotels, and I've been to many!
Our family, ages 4 to 60, enjoyed a wonderful stay at this condo over Thanksgiving week. It was very spacious so that we could enjoy lots of togetherness, but have plenty of privacy also. There was a private deck for each bedroom with an amazing view of the ocean and where we enjoyed morning coffee with the monkeys and exotic birds! In the evenings, we watched sunsets while we grilled the fresh tuna and mahi mahi that we caught on our offshore fishing trip. The condo was a convenient cab ride from anywhere - numerous restaurants and ten minutes to Manuel Antonio park where we saw tons of monkeys and surfed at the gorgeous beach. We walked 5 minutes to the local beach, where the water was very calm and safe for the little kids. The kids enjoyed the monkeys and rented snorkels there. It was nice to be located at the Shana resort with its amenities. We could cook or eat at the restaurant, it was nice to have the choice. The kids enjoyed the pool while the adults enjoyed excellent pizza cooked in a real brick oven. It may have been the best pizza I have ever eaten. Alex, the property manager, was great to work with in planning our trip and was very accommodating to our schedule. Alex, like everyone we met in Costa Rica, made us feel very welcome. This was our first trip to Costa Rica, but we hated to leave and can't wait to come back. I would definitely stay here again.
Hi Gail It was very nice to host your family and I hope to do so again May God Bless you with a Merry Christmas and properous New Year Cheers
We stayed at the Shana penthouse in early August. The condo easily accommodated the seven in our party with enough space and privacy for everyone's comfort. Every bedroom had a private veranda as well as the large veranda off the living room. My mother enjoyed watching the butterflies and birds in the dense forest below the condo. The kids loved the pool and the quiet beach literally 5 min walk below. We had a guided tour of Manuel Antonio park and also got in some rookie sport fishing. I would highly recommend this to a family wanting to enjoy luxurious accommodations while exploring the amazing natural surroundings of the Costa Rica rain forest
