    For Whale Watchers
The best time to go whale watching in Manuel Antonio is August to December. This is due to the migration patterns of the humpback whales, of which both Northern and Southern hemisphere humpbacks pass through Costa Rica. The humpback whales are the prized jewel for whale watching in Costa Rica.

    • Perfect Place

Reviewed by Brittany from Toronto on January 18, 2018 for their trip during January 14, 2018

Brittany Enero de 2018 Casa Castillo is the perfect place to stay in Manuel Antonio. We travel often all over the world, and this is a place we want to return to. The castle is so unique. We were nervous about the steep driveway everyone was commenting on, but we had a 4WD and had zero problems. We also walked up and down it just fine with 3 kids (all 5 and under). The castle is walking distance to restaurants, grocery, and souvenir shops. There is security near the top of the driveway as well which is nice. During our stay we were provided coffee, shampoo, fresh towels daily, etc. Nothing was left forgotten. Both pools are great, but if you have small kids like we do, you will need to keep a very close watch on them because there is no good way to block off access to the indoor pool. Tip: Don’t leave the balcony door open, or a monkey *might* come inside, and that monkey *might* steal your ritz cracker.

Owner Response: Hi Brittany it was a pleasure to host your family see you soon

    • Beautiful view, excellent space to accommodate a large crowd. Monkeys and beautiful nature surrounds

3.5 stars. The space was ideally located not far from breathtaking beaches and the entrance of the State Park. The house was spacious and accommodated a very large group of our families, and comfortably sleeps more than 12 guests. The nature and beauty of the jungle surrounds the house and the howler monkeys loud roar woke us up the first couple of mornings until we got used to them. My only complaint was the steep hill to the house could only be accessed by a 4X4 vehicle due to the steep decline/incline the final 50 yards or so, and therefore our group had to walk that steep incline every morning (not for the faint of heart or elderly). There was also a mix up with our parking spot at the top of this hill, but that was more a complaint towards our neighbours. Alex was very helpful with advice and booking of activities, and quite friendly and accommodating. The maid service was an added touch, with clean laundry folded on our nightstand at the end of the day! Very nice. I'd recommend staying.

    • Incredible Place

Casa Castillo is an incredible place to stay when you are in the Manuel Antonio area. It's a very short drive to the park and all the restaurants in the area, and if you want to do the 'hike' is walkable to some nice cafes. Alexander your host is an invaluable resource and is so willing to assist you in your stay. Use him to help plan your excursions, dining or for suggestions for any other activities in the area. The house itself is very large, spacious rooms, clean and with gorgeous views! The pool is a wonderful place to relax and feel like you are remote even though you are in a neighborhood (though houses are all high-end). The great room has a beautiful view and a unique feature of a small pool that you can take a dip in. Each bedroom has its own bathroom however those bathrooms are in the rooms, there is just a half wall separating. Everything is very clean, the housekeeper Emma does a great job. The house is eclectic in a unique and very fun way. -There are four levels, you are going to be going up and down stairs. - The main level does not have air conditioning (though all the bedrooms do) but with the screens, the fans and the pool it is very comfortable even when hot outside. - A wonderful place to stay, unique in so many ways (monkeys do come to the pool) and a host that will bend over backwards for you. It was a high point of our stay in Costa Rica!

Owner Response: Hi Dean Im glad your party had a great stay and i was glad to be of service Merry Christmas and happy New Year

I plan adventure trips all over the world and can say that this was the fanciest place we have ever stayed in. The pictures on Air BNB cannot come close to doing this place justice. Every person in our party of 13 were beyond impressed. It is a luxurious villa, and the pools are really nice to cool off in. We saw more wildlife from the deck and pool than we did in all the hiking around Manuel Antonio. There was a monkey show beyond belief the first day with howler, (endangered) spider monkeys, and cappuchin present on the back porch. And to top it off, the best views of the three toed sloth was a few feet above our head from the pool. Alex was more than accommodating as a host, facilitating for a delivery of dinner and beverages upon our arrival, and helping to set up a mangrove kayaking tour. Definitely will come here again.

Owner Response: Hi Dave it was my pleasue to help you get set up and ready to enjoy your vacation see you soon Cheers

Casa Castillo was an incredible place to stay and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay and enjoy Manuel Antonio. The house is amazing and the pictures truly do not do it justice. All of the rooms are great and the main living area of the house is a wide open common area that makes for a great spot to hang out with your group. We had a great time.

Owner Response: Hi Ian you and your friends were fun to work with it was my pleasure to help get thing rolling for you Cheers
